Gum Treatment
Gum treatment aims to assess and address periodontal problems that present with symptoms such as gum bleeding, redness, recession or inflammation, and to protect the health of the gums and supporting tissues.
What is it?
Gum diseases mostly develop due to bacterial plaque and tartar that build up on the tooth surface. In the early stage, redness and bleeding of the gum (gingivitis) is seen, while in the later stage the supporting tissues surrounding the tooth may be affected (periodontitis).
Gum treatment may include scaling, subgingival cleaning (root surface planing) and, when needed, surgical approaches, depending on the severity of the condition. The aim is to bring inflammation under control and help protect gum health.
Who is it for?
Gum treatment may be considered for people with symptoms such as gum bleeding, redness, swelling, bad breath, gum recession or sensitivity in the teeth. Even if symptoms are mild, early assessment can help prevent the problem from progressing.
Smoking, certain systemic diseases and irregular oral hygiene can affect gum health. The appropriate treatment approach is determined after the gum condition is assessed by examination.
How does the process work?
The process begins with a gum examination and, when needed, gum pocket measurements. In the first stage, scaling and, if deemed necessary, subgingival cleaning are usually performed. In advanced cases, additional treatments may be planned.
After treatment, regular check-ups and home care are recommended to protect gum health. The course of healing and the procedure required vary from person to person.
Aftercare and maintenance
Maintaining gum health largely depends on daily oral hygiene. Correct brushing, interdental cleaning and periodic check-ups help preserve the result after treatment.
Frequently asked
Is gum bleeding normal?
Recurrent gum bleeding during brushing is usually a sign of gum inflammation and assessment is recommended. When addressed early, the condition can often be brought under control.
Can gum recession be reversed?
The cause and degree of the recession affect the outcome. In some cases the aim is to stop the progression, while in suitable cases procedures targeting the gum level may be considered; the approach is determined by examination.
Will my gums deteriorate again after treatment?
Protecting gum health depends on regular oral hygiene and check-ups. When care is not maintained, problems can recur; for this reason, periodic follow-up is recommended.
